We are pleased to announce a new addition to the BIG LUV animal familly.  We will be offering occasional Scottish Fold kittens and cats which will be lovingly and responsibly bred just as our puppies are.   These beautiful show cats are very special to us!  Enjoy this introduction if you are not familiar.  If you are passionate about Scottish Folds, we are confident you will find our breeding line outstanding.

about the breed

All Scottish Folds can trace their pedigrees back to a cat named Susie found in 1961 on the McRae farm near Coupar Angus, a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. This white female farm feline had unique, folded down ears, and British Shorthair breeders William and Mary Ross, upon seeing this unusual cat, recognized her potential as a new breed.

Susie continued to produce some of the folded ear kittens and through study, it was determined that the folded ear trait was dominant meaning only one parent needed to contribute that gene.  The Rosses intitially called the breed LOPS after the lop eared rabbit but changed it to honor the unique trait and the country in which it was born - they became known as Scottish Folds.

The Scottish Folds are playful, medium energy cats who are friendly to other pets and people, though they typically bond closely with one person.  They have medium grooming requirements and they are smart, independent pets and show cats who are usually very hearty.

Scottish folds are very popular in the show world. There are two recognized classes - short hair and long hair as coat length varies.  The long hair is thought to come from early outcrosses to Persians.

Not all offspring have the folded ear.  Those that do not are called "pert-ear" and can still be judged as Scottish Straight Shorthair and Scottish Straight Longhair.  Since the fold doesn't breed true, those with pert ears can be purchased more inexpensively while the folded ear cats are considerably more prized.
